The prayer of a little boy
As I am sitting there in the bleachers, I think to myself about the game. It's like life...we all
get a chance to be up to bat. Sometimes we strike out, sometimes we get hit..and if we are truly blessed we get a home run. When, we go after what we want in life and we achieve it. It's like the home run and it makes us feel wonderful. I am drawn back to the game when I
hear some moans. All the bases are loaded and a little boy is up to bat. This is the last inning of the game . They already have two outs. They are two behind in the score. I over hear some man say , "We might as well give up the game now, he never gets a hit."
I am saddened how people are prejudging this boy. I watch him and the first ball is thrown by pitcher and sure enough it was a strike and he missed it . The crowd groans some more. Again, the boy takes his stance to get ready and looks at the pitcher. The pitcher winds up and releases the ball again, another strike. The next thing that happens surprised us all.
The little boy tells the umpire time out, the umpire calls a time out. The little boy looks around and then drops his bat. He drops to his knees right there at home base. He folds his little fingers and drops his head. He starts praying for him to hit this ball. The crowd that was moaning and groaning and complaining now is hushed. Everyone watching this little boy in amazement. When he is all done , he stands back up and goes over and gets his bat.
He takes his stance again, he tells the umpire all set now. The game is back on, the pitcher
throws the ball and by now everyone is the bleachers on both sides are up on there feet.
The anticipation is so great everyone every one is holding their breath waiting to see if he hits this ball. The next sound you could hear is SMACK, yes the ball hits the bat and sure enough it is flying out to the outfield. He runs to the first base as the others run to their bases. One by one, they go past home base. The boy runs past first on to second, then third and now the third base coach is waving him to go all the way . The crowd is cheering so loud for this little boy. He crosses the plate and every one of his teammates runs to the field. Two of the boys pick him up and place them on each of side of their shoulder and team is cheering for this little boy. I sit there and think to myself again one minute the crowd is moaning and next they are cheering. Why do we always prejudge people ? I was so happy to see that little boy bow his head and pray in front of that crowd. That little boys showed me so much that day. So now when things come up that I think are to huge for me to handle, I give it to God. Sometimes in life, we need a child to lead us to God, to think as a child.
